“There was nothing, absolutely nothing, that told us he was going to end his life.”

The reality of losing someone to suicide was a pain that was felt by his family, friends, fellow team players and an entire community. This pain was what drove his mum and a close team of people to begin the Hayden Butler Foundation.

The Hayden Butler Foundation is now a committee comprised of a close team of people who share the same passion, dedication and commitment to having an active role in suicide prevention and awareness.

Our belief is in equipping families and communities with knowledge to spot and manage early signs if they become apparent, as well as support individuals suffering with depression, anxiety, or mental health concerns through compassionate support.

Hayden was on his way to the top.

The Hayden Butler Foundation was established by a mother who lost her son to suicide. Her youngest – Hayden Samuel Butler.

He was a 20 year old young man, passionate about rugby and driven to succeed as an athlete. He was the youngest of two boys, the loud one, the cheeky one, always laughing through life and ceasing every opportunity that came his way.

An ordinary boy with an extraordinary talent.

Rising to the top as a rugby league player wasn’t an option for him, it was a must. It was the attitude he had his whole life.

He received his black belt in Karate at 8 years old, he excelled in Australian Rules football just as much as he did in rugby league and made the choice to pursue rugby league at a more serious level early on.
